How to make a green smoothie out of stalky wheatgrass

Ingredients you will need:
stalky wheatgrass
silverbeet
celery
a kiwifruit
2 cups of water
a banana
stevia to taste e.g. 3 drops

This is a great way to get everything you can out of your wheatgrass tray without having to throw it away after the first cut. Blend up all the ingredients making sure to disperse the wheatgrass through out the stocking of your omniblend. Give it a good 2 and a half minutes putting in some ice halfway through to keep it cool and strain it through a nut milk bag to remove the bulky fibres.

  1. Hi I watched your video about blending wheatgrass. Some forums say this kills the nutrients in wheatgrass. I’m not sure as I grow wheatgrass but don’t have a wheatgrass juicer and don’t know whether to brother to buy one as I have an omniblend. However if I’m killing the goodness in wheatgrass by putting it in my blender then there’s not much point is there…
Would like to know what you think and if you know of any research on this.
    Cheers

    1. Hi Michaela

      Thanks for writing in

The only possible way the nutrients could be altered by blending is if you let your smoothie heat up during blending.
(If some nutrients were heat sensitive i.e. the degrade outside normal temperatures.)

This could be an issue with wheatgrass smoothies as you have to blend them for longer e.g. 2 1/2 mins, that’s why I add some ice halfway through blending to keep the temperature cool.
